Kid's Club--a huge success

Summer Kid's Club this year was the perfect opportunity for kids to learn about Jesus and to have some fun too. It was also the perfect place for parents to not only drop their kids off for a few hours, but to learn about New Life and what we are all about.

This year's Summer Kid's Club theme was Son Rock Kids Camp and would not have been possible without the following people giving their time and their skills:

Jim Boswell, Adam Galema, Brian LeRoy, Kyle Lynas, Kaitlyn Klotz, Lori and Eric Shaw, and the Ivy family, all stepped up and volunteered to help out on the first water night. The kids had a blast!

Georgiann Hany was in charge of crafts and did an amazing job! She is so talented and was a true blessing to the kids.

Mimi and Kimmi Klotz were in charge of music and really got the kids excited to sing "SON ROCK KIDS CAMP!"

Landi Moore lead the Bible studies each week and truly put her heart and soul into the stories to get the kids excited about Jesus.

Kristian Frye was in charge of the skits, and her and Shane Frye designed an awesome set. It couldn't have been possible without them and the actors!

Brian LeRoy and Adam Galema were in charge of recreation for the kids and they did a great job coming up with games and had a creative use of supplies.

Thanks to everyone else who helped out. It couldn't have been done without you--and God truly used you as His hands and feet these past two months!

Each week we had at least 40 kids or more! The kids also collected over 100 canned foods for the community food pantry. This Kids Club has truly blessed this church and the community. Here are some truly moving stories about how Kids Club has changed lives:

A single dad with a baby daughter asked about Sunday services and wanted to know
more information about the church. Also, a father of two kids who came to Kids
Club wrote a check to the church just because he felt blessed by our church. One
of the single moms in the community said with tears in her eyes that she was
blessed that she had a free and safe place to bring her child.

God has truly blessed this church and has been working through the church and this Kids Club in the past two months. Please be sure to welcome any new faces you see at church and make them feel welcome!

God is great and He loves you!

Youth Group/Day Care Rummage Sale

The Youth Group and Day Care Rummage Sale was held on Saturday, June 13. There was a great turnout. Thanks to everyone's generous donations and helping hands, we raised over $1,000 for the youth and the day care!

I received this poem in an e-mail and it really humbled me. It reminded me of what it truly means to be a Christian. Becoming a Christian doesn't mean that you'll become rich, successful and have everything you want just because you pray for it. It doesn't mean that you will always be healthy and happy. It's about being completely dependent on God for everything in your life, and trusting Him to give you everything you need. It means having forgiveness and compassion for others. It means allowing God to transform your life and to fill you up with so much love and hope that you can't help but show it to others. I hope it reminds you of a what a Christian really is.

Pastor John's Surprise Party

Disguised as the Youth Group/Crosswalk cookout, Pastor John's Birthday Surprise Party was a fun way to show John how much we love and appreciate him. Dan Salmon and Susan Hunt were the masterminds behind the party, and everyone was invited to bring food to pitch in. Dan even made John a steak dinner! It was a great turnout and everyone had fun celebrating John's special day.

Believe it or not summer is approaching and school is slowly coming to an end...which means it's time for Vacation Bible School! This year's theme is SonRock Camp and we've got camping fever! So, we have two things to request:

1) If you have any camping supplies (tents, christmas trees, stuffed forest animals, fake campfires, etc.) please bring them to the church so we can set up our camping scene.

2) We would love volunteers! If you are in the youth group or Crosswalk, or are just interested in having fun and teaching our kids about Jesus, we need your help!

VBS will be a little different this year. It starts June 3rd and ends July 1st and will be held every Wednesday night from 6:15pm-8:30pm. Don't forget to tell friends and family about VBS--the more the merrier!

Want a fun, rewarding way to get involved with New Life and share God's love with others? Teaching our kids about Jesus is a great way to do that! The New Life Kids City Summer program could use your time and talents!

Please consider volunteering for our kids classes this summer--May 31-August 2. You can help out with Wiggle Way, the 2 and 3 year olds, or Up Town-Route 34, the kindergarden through 4th grade group. If you are interested in Wiggle Way, there is one opening for the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month and 2 openings for the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month. If you would like to help with Up Town-Route 34, there is one opening for the 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of the month.

Good Friday Service

This year we had a Good Friday service to remember for years to come. It was a quiet service spent remembering how Christ died for our sins so that we can be forgiven and spend eternal life with our Father in heaven. As we walked into the dimly lit, quiet sanctuary, we visited four stations that allowed reflection on how Jesus can break down barriers, remove bitterness from our lives, and lead us to God. We were also asked to reflect on all of the distractions in our lives that keep us from growing in our faith and spending time with God. By dipping our fingers in red paint and writing our names under the words "Remember Me" we reflected on how Jesus saves each and every one of us, and how we can all have a place in the kingdom of heaven if we give our lives to Jesus Christ.

We also read scripture about the events leading up to Jesus' death, sang worship songs, and silently prayed. The service was a perfect time to reflect on what Jesus did for us, and to prepare our hearts and minds for Sunday morning when we celebrated Jesus' resurrection.

Home Group Month is coming to a close and we still have two groups to cover. Feel free to visit the groups to find the group that's right for you.

Jeff and Dianne White are the leaders of the Pendleton/Fishers Home Group. They meet on the first and third Sundays of the month from 5:30 to 7:30. They usually have dinner or a small meal together and visit for a while and then do a Bible study or discussion time together afterwards. There are quite a few families with children in this group, so childcare is provided.

The Noblesville/Cicero Home Group is led by the Nicholas's and the Murray's. They meet on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month from 6:00 to 7:30 at Dave and Lois White's home. Visit their group for fellowship, get to know them better, and just share life with them!

March is Home Group Month, a chance for all church members to consider joining a home group and start connecting with eachother. This week we are featuring two groups.

First is the Noblesville home group. The group started out as a men's only group, but are now inviting everyone; men and women. They meet on the first and third Tuesdays of the month from 7:00 to 8:45 at Allen Settles home off of State Road 38. If a weeknight works better for you than Sunday nights, this group may be great for you. Contact Todd Rankin, the leader of the group, for more information.

Second is the Noblesville/Westfield home group. Lead by the Hunts and the Salmons, this group meets on the second and fourth Sundays of the month from 6:00-8:00. They meet at Dan and Sarah Salmon's home. Contact them to see if you can visit the group to meet everyone and to see if this group is right for you.

The featured home group this week is the Carmel/Westfield home group. They meet the 1st and 3rd Sunday evenings from 5:30-7:30pm at Jim and Lori Kolczak's house near 151st and Carey Road. The leaders of the group are Brett and Kelli Brooks and Jim and Lori Kolczak. They are currently finishing up with a Jim Cymbala DVD series on prayer and will be starting a new study in April. They usually meet and begin with a meal together and then have a Bible study time and prayer time together. They have quite a few elementary through high school-aged children in the group. They'd love to have some new friends join them!

Ladies Night Out

Ladies night out was a great time on Monday night. Ladies of all ages from the church met at Chili's to laugh, talk, and just be with eachother. Remember, there is always room for more so don't be shy, and bring friends so everyone can get to know each other better. The date and location for next month's ladies night out isn't decided yet, and we are open for any suggestions:)

Home Group Month

March is Home Group Month at New Life, and every week a new home group will be featured. This week is Team PJ home group. The group is mostly for people in the 18-30 year-old range, single or married. They meet at the home of Adam & Lyndie Milfort (co-leaders) in Westfield on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 6:30 pm. They usually pitch in food and share a meal, visit a while, and then have Bible study and prayertime together. They’ve been choosing a different theme for the meal each time like breakfast for dinner, Italian, Mexican, etc. They’re talking about a service project that they can do or sponsor as a group soon. Those with children drop them off at Eric & Lori Shaw’s home and there they are watched by two of the Klotz daughters. In addition to meetings they’ve had times where they just meet for fun, like playing games or watching football on Adam’s massive TV screen. Here are some pictures to enjoy while you consider trying out this home group. You don't have to make any committments, you can go to several home groups to try and find the best one for you.

Espresso Self

Espresso Self was a big hit tonight at New Life. From rock music to musical numbers to ping pong ball tricks to balancing acts, we were well entertained with all of the talent in our church. There was plenty of hot chocolate and coffee and healthy portions of singing, dancing, banjo-playing and even some laughs. These pictures will explain better than words--enjoy!

Espresso Self

Espresso self is coming! New Life's first annual talent show/coffee house is on Sunday, February 22nd at 6pm. Sign up at the Welcome Center with your song, dance, group skit, drama, musical number, or crazy talent that you just have to share. Anyone and everyone is welcome to participate. Be sure to bring friends, family and neighbors to enjoy an evening of coffee and undiscovered talent.

We need your help! Bring in what you can; items needed include: coffee cups with lids, hot chocolate, flavored creamer, and cash to cover any additional costs of items not contributed. We'll see you there!

Superbowl XLIII

Football fans from the Fishers/Pendleton home group enjoyed Superbowl XLIII at Jeff and Dianne White’s house. The kids (and adults!) had fun watching the commercials in 3D with special glasses provided by Jeff and Dianne. Home groups at New Life provide a great way to get involved, get connected, get some food, fellowship…and even football.

New Life Welcome Ministry

When my children were three and one, I decided it was time to find a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group in the Fishers area. I found one that was just a few blocks away from our house, contacted the director, and arrived the following Friday. As I walked into the church, babies in tow, I was so relieved to see a lobby full of mom's and people to greet me. I had no idea where to go, no idea where to take my kids, and I felt vulnerable and nervous because of it. I smiled shyly at one mom, whose gaze jumped to the mom next to her as if she hadn't seen me. I tried another, whose eyes went to the floor. I walked in a few steps more, wondering if maybe it wasn't obvious enough that I was new. I went down the line of mom's, thinking surely someone would be willing to help, but I soon realized no one was going to make the move. I no longer had the energy to verbally ask someone for help myself, so I tucked my tail between my legs, turned and walked back to my van with my two kids who I had worked so hard to scrub up for the morning. With tears brimming, I realized for the first time in years, what it truly feels like to be the visitor.
I've attended New Life with my family for eight years now; it has been a very long time since I had been in the visitor's shoes. I knew very quickly that God had intentionally slipped those uncomfortable shoes on me that morning.
The welcome ministry could not in any way be more crucial to the overall ministry of a church family. The moment people walk in, they deserve to be welcomed with a smile and a handshake.
Mimi and I are working on building a greeter's schedule that will add to and build upon the amazing job our ushers do each week. We're simply going to enlarge the team! Please think and pray about whether or not you can help out one Sunday each month! You can let myself (Jenessa Denniston, jenessaden@yahoo.com), Mimi, or Jerry Ravencraft know if you are willing to help. And there will be a very brief meeting after church this coming Sunday (February 8th) for all who are interested!

On Christmas Eve, we go to my parents' house and make a special dinner, then we open gifts with my mom and dad and then we sit by the tree and drink hot cocoa and tell stories of Christmases past. Then Shane, Cameron and I go to our house to open gifts and sit by the lit tree and tell the story of Jesus' birth.

Crosswalk is collecting canned & dry goods now through Sunday, December 7.

Holiday food gift boxes will be delivered to elderly people in the area through the organization, Amanda Strong Food for the Needy, on Saturday morning December 13th. the Crosswalk kids will also be singing carols as they deliver. Collection boxes will be in the lobby starting this Sunday!

Tiny Shepherds

On a typical week in the Wiggle Way classroom (2 and 3 year olds), we have around 7 two-year-old boys and one pretty, pink princess. Needless to say, the energy is high! What a joy it is to wrangle and teach these tiny little lights.

Here they are learning what it meant for David to be a shepherd. It was one of the cutest little scenes I (Jenessa) have ever seen. They were given "staffs" made out of construction paper and told to shoo the little "sheep" (cotton balls) into the "pen." They got right to work!

All of the lost sheep were found! =) And they were so excited!

They learned God can use them just as they are, and I just know He will!

And then - we did trains. =) My personal challenge is to construct a biblical lesson involving trains. Now that's something that would keep their attention.

This is a reminder of some important events taking place this Friday & Sunday at New Life.

1. Concert of Prayer starts at 7 PM this Friday. We will spend time praying for our church through guided group & individual times of prayer.
2. “Mini Shower” for newlyweds Peter & Amanda Graham this Sunday at 10 AM in the foyer. Come wish them well on their marriage and introduce yourself.
3. Great Expectations Campaign Info Meeting right after Sunday’s worship service in the Crosswalk meeting room. This is an opportunity for anyone who is not in a home group or attended a recent campaign info meeting to hear details about our debt-reducing stewardship campaign and participate in a question & answer time. Dan Salmon will be leading this info meeting. Call the church or email me if you will be attending.

On Friday, October 17th at 7 PM, everyone is encouraged to gather for a time of prayer. As part of our 40 Days of Prayer & Fasting, an evening is being set aside where we can spend time praying for our church's life & ministry and for our Great Expectations stewardship campaign. God will bless us with unity and a sense of purpose as we set aside the time from our busy schedules to pray in Jesus' name. This time will a combination of worship, individual and group prayer. Childcare will be available.

Baby Mikey is Here

Congratulations to Brian and Sarah LeRoy on the arrival of their first son, Michael Brian LeRoy! He was born Sunday morning, September 28th, and was 6lbs. 12oz. and 21 inches. Please keep baby Mikey in your prayers as he is jaundice and having to use a billi-blanket, and please pray for Brian and Sarah as they adjust to life as parents.

I want to say "Thank you" to Dianne White and all the beautiful ladies that celebrated with me Monday night. It was a really fun surprise! I was humbled and encouraged by the show of love and friendship. We need each other! I need you! To me, what happened Monday night is the church family in action as it should be: rejoicing with those who rejoice, weeping with those who weep. That way, we won't feel alone in our circumstances, but will walk confidently, arm in arm. I want to do that for my church family, too.

Cancer Free!

A group gathered to celebrate with and surprise Mimi Klotz who has officially been cancer free after battling breast cancer five years ago. Praise God! Sylvia Hunter and Edna Renner are also cancer survivors, so we had much to celebrate.

Miracle Watch

One of the two adult classes being offered on Wednesday evenings is taking a look at some of the miracles of Jesus. The group was challenged by Andy Denniston to be on "Miracle Watch" throughout the next few weeks and to report what they find. Tonight, Jim and Nancy Dalton brought in these gorgeous flowers from their garden. They are indeed a perfect example of one of God's many miracles, and as Jim noted, some of them start as a seed smaller than a grain of salt. He said sometimes seeds similar to these will lie dormant in a dessert region for more than 100 years. When the right amount of rain falls, the dessert becomes covered with beautiful blooms such as these. Miraculous!

Praise God for his miracles all around us, and join us in watching Him work.

It's Vacation Bible School week!! And the church is bustling with activity in the evenings. Here's a few snapshots of Tuesday night's fun. It's not too late to bring your kids and their friends out! It will run Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday nights from 6:30-8:30p.m., and parents are welcome to join the fun on Friday night! There will be goodies for all that night. And one last note - money is being collected for Living Water Internation, who restores old wells and digs new ones to provide clean water for communities. Each dollar donated allows one person to have clean water for an entire year. Donations will be accepted through July 31st.

Children and Youth Sunday!

Our children and youth did an extraordinary job leading our worship today! They covered nearly every corner of the morning service, from handing out the bulletins, to giving the announcements and to leading the music. Our youth intern and previous youth member, Ashley Fletcher gave the message and challenged us all to find and define our true identity in Christ. Thank you Ashley!

Here's a small taste of the high-energy worship we had this morning.

After service we all went outdoors for our annual block party. Praise God, the rain held off and the wind didn't keep us from having a great time. Thank you so much to all of the hard work so many of you put forth to bring this together. The smiling, happy faces prove it was worth it.

Two more areas highlighted today were the upcoming vacation bible school! Registration began and it's not too late to register your children. See our website for more information, http://www.nlcc.to/.

Also, volunteer sign-ups have begun for the fall children's ministry. Think Orange! http://www.nlcckidscity.blogspot.com/ is a new blog that explains more, please take a look! As I heard someone say earlier this week, our children are not the church of the future, they are the church of today. Join us in worshipping and learning with and through them.

Think ORANGE: ARE YOU READY?

It’s summer time and while we enjoy cookouts, vacations, swimming pools and lemonade, it is also time to launch our FALL 2008 campaign for our children’s ministry! Exciting things will be happening in the life of our children’s ministry this fall and none of it can happen without YOU!

Thinking Orange is simple. The Church (YELLOW) and the Family (RED) combined gives us a vibrant shade of ORANGE! As a whole, the church spends 40 hours a year with children and the family spends over 3,000 hours with their children. Who has the most influence? It is our hope as a Church Family to give parents the resources and tools to influence their child’s spiritual growth!

To begin, new theme names for each of the classrooms will be introduced this fall, to give the kids ownership of their specific age group!

NEW LIFE’S KID’S CITY

Nursery/Toddlers (ages 0-3 years) WIGGLE WAY

We are so excited about our Sunday morning curriculum this year. Our Leadership Team has chosen to go with One Vine, an online curriculum company that allows us access to a website full of different choices and ideas for each week’s specific lesson! One Vine is broken into two parts, the main story will be told in a large group setting, so we have done some reconstruction on how our Sunday Mornings will run to accommodate.

The large group worship will consist of kids in K-4th grade, (FOR NOW, at least.) and the message will be told by a team and this time will be known as BIBLE BLVD, the kids will be greeted in their designated classes and escorted to BIBLE BLVD by their small group leaders (CROSS GUARDS) and after BIBLE BLVD, CROSS GUARDS will go back to class and dive into the message with those in their small group!

The MAIN role of a Cross Guards is to challenge the kids in their group to dig deeper in the story that was covered through prayer and scripture. We know that as a church we cannot compete with culture, but we also know that culture cannot compete with community that is built in these small group settings! We encourage our CROSS GUARDS to have fun with the kids and build relationships with them while also influencing their spiritual growth! If your talent is music, sing with them. If your talent is crafts, then craft with them! Allow them to see what JOY it brings YOU to use your talents to serve GOD! Through the One Vine website, you will be given a world of ideas from crafts to discussion topics that fit with each week’s lesson.

We are hoping to have a team of STORYTELLER’S whose MAIN role is to explore each week’s Bible story and tell it in a way that the kids will enjoy! Through the One Vine website, you will become acquainted with each week’s story/message and be provided with numerous ideas! As a storyteller you have complete control of your time with the kids (25 minutes). You can sing with them, you can do puppets, skits, dress up as characters or play games. We want these kids to be excited about God’s Word and enjoy being at Church!

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS-FAMILY NIGHTS
We know what a Wednesday Night might look like for a kid, especially during the school year. A typical Wednesday, starts by waking up early in the morning and heading straight to school where they use most of the time and energy in a classroom. We also recognize that after school there is usually a rush of things to do before church, homework, dinner, extra curricular activities and so forth.
This fall and winter our Kids Under Construction (KUC) will explore 1 spiritual virtue a month and will be encouraged to participate in talk back sessions with their COACHES (Teachers)
Our goal is that each week’s virtue, will be carried over to AT HOME conversations, setting the stage for parents to engage their kids in further discussion! We plan to provide information on our new children’s ministry blog coming this fall!
Examples of Spiritual Virtues are: Joy, Patience, Humility, and Courage
We also will be experimenting with fun projects on Wednesdays-science projects, cool crafts, music sign language and other kid friendly activities-our goal for Wednesday Nights is to not only enhance their spiritual lives and build character, but also make it an environment that kids WANT to invite their friends to!
In Discovery zone, our Preschoolers will discover God’s amazing world along side Boz the Bear! Boz, and his friends, Drew and Gracie love to explore God’s world through:
Numbers
Matching
Counting
Sequencing
And
Colors and Shapes
These lessons involve the whole family, with take home resources to explore and investigate new concepts in faith and learning!

Nursery will also be offered on Wednesday Nights for children ages 0-2 years. This will be a time for a child to feel loved and safe while their parents are in a class!
Obviously NONE of this can be made possible without volunteers. We ask that you pray about how God can use you to make a difference in the lives of our kids here at New Life!
It is our goal to build a community within the children’s ministry volunteer team-as they say on Disney’s HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL, “WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!”

***Keep in mind, that the Cross Guard positions every week accept for the LAST SUNDAY of the month (when kids will be in service with their families)…go ahead, say it… “THAT’S A LOT!” The purpose of Cross Guards are to BUILD RELATIONSHIPS and MENTOR these kids-we can’t do that once a month or every other Sunday. On Sunday, June 22 we will be led in our morning worship times by guest worship artist Todd Braschler. Todd has been involved in various worship ministry roles for over 20 years and has served on staff at different churches as a Pastor of Worship and is the founder of Todd Braschler Ministries. Todd's ministry provides teaching and consultive support through the Building the Church of God's Dreams Conference, hosting the Worship Ministry Conference & Retreat, and through men's conferences and retreats.

You'll find Todd to be an inspiring and very competent worship leader. A Love Offering will be received during both worship services. You won't want to miss this particular Sunday at New Life.

Wednesday Nights for the Summer

This Wednesday, June 4th, we will begin a five week summer ministry series. Each week we will meet at the church at 6:30 and then go to a new location to serve. This week we will be visiting Maple Park Village in Westfield, to spend time singing songs, visiting, and possibly playing some games. If you have games to bring, please do. And for the future visits, please let Donna Watson know if you have a special music selection you'd be able to offer (ensemble, solo, etc.).

All ages are welcome and I'm certain the faces of our children would bring smiles to their faces. Let's have a big group to go this Wednesday! And please mark down the other four weeks, June 18th, July 2nd, 16th, and 30th.

Tithing Appeal

Dear New Life Family,

We hope that this Spring season has been a time of refreshing and the start of new things for you. It’s always a welcome sight to see things turning green with life again after the barrenness of winter.

We want to update you on the financial status of our church. Essentially, we are not receiving enough in our weekly offerings to pay our financial obligations. The way we have been meeting those obligations has been through our cash reserves. We need approximately $8,500 each week to meet our budget and pay our expenses. We are averaging about $5,400 in giving each week. As you can see we are over $3,000 short of what we need and are quickly depleting our savings to make up for the shortfall.

We have made spending cuts wherever possible. The majority of our expenses are in fixed expenditures such as the mortgage ($11,272/mo.), maintenance, utilities, staff and office expenses. This month we have cancelled our advertising in the local paper ($585/yr.) and the cleaning service ($485/mo.). We are looking into using a less expensive security alarm service (currently $314/mo.). These spending cuts will only slow the drain on our cash reserves not correct it. Beyond these minimal cuts in expenses, if monthly giving does not increase we may have to look at possibly closing our New Life Children’s Center day care and cutting pastoral staff.

The reality of our situation is the monthly mortgage payment is overburdening our expenses. We need each person that attends New Life to help in this burden. If you are a regular giver, we appreciate your generosity and only ask that you keep giving faithfully. Pray and ask if God would have you increase your weekly/monthly tithe or possibly give a one-time sacrificial gift to help us through our financial hardship. If you have not been giving to New Life, begin giving in accordance to your income. We are not asking you to match those who are able to give more but to give what you can. We need equal sacrifice in your church giving, not equal amounts. If you love New Life, if you have been blessed and benefitted from its ministry and programs, then please help us to meet our expenses so that more crucial cuts in staff and ministries do not have to be made.

Please do not despair. God is great and He promises to supply what we need. He will see us through this time if we continually seek Him and submit to His will for our lives. One of the core principles of discipleship is giving. Jesus expects us to give just as He fully gave Himself to accomplishing God’s plan of salvation for our world. By working together we have no doubt that God will see us through and get us beyond our financial hardship.

Beyond your giving please pray for our church. Pray for God to supply what we need. Pray for God to help us be good stewards of what He provides for us. Pray for our ministry volunteers who give so much of their time and talent in serving God and others. Pray for the pastors and leaders of New Life. This is a stressful time for them as they work hard at finding a solution to our financial need.

Please don’t hesitate to talk with our pastors or Steering Committee members. If you have helpful ideas or solutions, they want to hear from you.

Women's Tea

Several women attended the second annual women's tea this morning. Everything was lovely! The planning committee did such a beautiful job pulling all of the details together. There were scones, finger sandwiches, cookies, a chocolate fountain, fresh fruit, a punch fountain, and of course, hot tea of all flavors. Memories, praises, a devotion, and testimonies were shared. We look forward to next year's tea already! And ladies mark your calendars, there's a movie and dinner night coming up on Friday, June 6th at Lori Kolczak's home!

Many gathered to celebrate and surprise Donna Watson, Ron Bill, and Gordon Wagoner last night. Donna turned sixty this year, Ron seventy, and Gordon eighty! Now that's something to celebrate! More than that, the three of them are loved beyond words and it was a wonderful evening of friendship, joy, and delicious food. Best of all, the surprise was a success and their reactions were priceless!

Pastor Crump gave updates on:
-Children’s Ministry led by Jenni Sprague and her team.

-More focus to be directed to small groups in the near future.

Pastor Klotz gave updates on:
-Sunday mornings – continuing with two services, the 8:30 service to worship “unplugged” with no drums or bass guitars and the 10:30 service will continue with a full band.
-The steering committee, which will continue to meet the first Saturday of each month to conduct church business. They will also meet the second Wednesday to discuss church vision and where God is leading.
-Family nights will not cease for the summer as in the past. Community service projects will be sought to bring God into the community.
-A capital campaign committee has been formed. Sunday was the end of the last 3 year campaign. Outside consultants are being researched and it will be four to five more months before an official plan will be formed.

Greetings New Life Family;

We want to remind you of the Easter Week events that will be taking place on Thursday and Friday. Please note there will be no Family Night this Wednesday due to the Thursday and Friday events.

We need you to let us know if you plan to attend the dinner on Thursday evening. Please email or call Patty at the church office to let us know how many to expect from your family. Please arrive by 6:30 PM for the dinner.

Following the meal we will have a time for feetwashing with the men and women being separated into groups. Washing feet follows the example Jesus set for His disciples in the13th chapter of John’s Gospel. It reminds us that we are called to humbly serve one another. Come to participate or observe the feetwashing service.

On Friday we will have a Good Friday Service remembering the death of Jesus. Plan to come and reflect on the purpose of Jesus’ sacrificial death for all people.

We REALLY need an adult to help watch infants and toddlers each night. We will supply some youth to assist you. Contact the church as soon as possible.

Prayer Group

Every Sunday morning, between services at 10:15, a group meets to pray for our church family. All are welcome to join them. They meet in the prayer room, which is also available for use anytime during the week. Let's be a family of prayer, lifting everything to the Lord.

The 110 Day Challenge

Jesus said that if we hold on to His teachings, that is to really spend time living in them, we would grow to know the truth and the truth would set us free.

Pastor John Klotz has given us a 110 day challenge to do just that by reading the four gospels of the New Testament for 110 days straight. The plan simply is to read one chapter a day from one of the gospels until you've read every chapter. The format is like this: read Matthew one chapter a day for 28 days, John chapter/day for 21 days, Mark chapter/day for 16 days, 21 days in John again, and concluded with Luke chapter/day for 24 days. This will give you 110 days of reading the teachings of Jesus.

Before you read each day ask the Lord to speak to you through the chapter. As you read look for something that stands out and pray asking the Lord what He wants you to get from that verse or passage. Then apply what you discover to your life and live what you've learned.

Let's see what happens in our church and families as we saturate ourselves with the teachings of Jesus. Without a doubt we will know the truth and see the spiritual freedom God gives being displayed more greatly in our lives. The challenge goes from Monday, February 25 through Friday, June 13.

Winter Retreat Leaves a Good Impression

25 youth and 10 adults traveled to Camp Challenge this past weekend for the annual youth winter retreat. This year's theme was "Impressions", focusing on leadership and what impression each of our lives will leave on those around us. Guest speaker, Scott McDonald, challenged and inspired the teens to consider how God uses young people to lead and be world-changers. Eric Hunt and Ethan Harting led in worship for the retreat.

Aside from the fun of hanging out together and tubing down wintry slopes, here are some memorable moments as quoted by some of the "winter retreaters":

A Weekend to Remember

Four years ago, my in-laws gave Andy and me two tickets to a marriage conference through Family Life Ministries. To be honest, I was thankful for the gift, but I was skeptical that we really needed it. We had just had Lydia however, and so I wasn't going to turn down a day away.
All of my expectations were turned inside out as I found myself, throughout the day, laughing until it hurt, praying, thinking, and crying. I truly believe our marriage was strengthened that day, and although we vowed to go back every year, time got away from us.
We're heading back this May, and I'd like to open an invitation to you to join us. It's May 2-4, downtown Indianapolis, and it runs from 5p.m. on Friday evening to noon on Sunday. The New Life Youth Ministry would like to thank you for your huge support of the Winter Retreat bake sale! We raised $550 which will help to reduce the cost of the retreat for our youth! We are extremely blessed to have such generous people in our church family!

And one reminder…we will have a work day this Saturday from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm with three major projects:

1. Paint the lower walls in our lobby
2. Clean our worship center chairs
3. Sort through Christmas decorations and store them above the walls in the lobby.

We enjoyed our first "WGYWB: We're Glad You Were Born", celebrating people's birthdays in January or February. We had 7 birthday people show up with some family in tow for some eats and fun fellowship. What a great evening! Please be sure to come when your birthday month rolls around. The New Life pastoral staff and Steering Committee would like to announce that Ashley Fletcher will begin a youth ministry internship with us beginning this Wednesday, January 16th. As many of you know Ashley has been a part of our youth ministry since she was young. It is very exciting to give one of “our own” an opportunity to begin her formal ministry! Ashley will be working approximately 10 hours per week with primary responsibilities to coordinate, plan and teach the Sr. High youth during Family Nights.

HDcv: High Definition of Christ's Vision

If you missed HDcv, be sure to write it down on your calendar next time and be there. This fun, super-energized worship service was attended by more than 60 "New Lifers" who came to praise God and celebrate.

There was an appearance by "Claudette Clouseau" who led the kids to use their detective skills in some Bible verses to find that God would be there to heal hearts and help us when we're down.

The story of David and Goliath came to life in front of us. Did you know Goliath talked like Arnold Schwarzenegger?! You learn something new every time you come to church, I'm telling you.

JC Walk made a repeat appearance and had everyone on their feet. Lots of Jesus freaks in the house! Sam Bauer taught us about being joyful always and praying continually. We should practice praying so much that it becomes natural to us, just like breathing.

Pastor John Klotz talked with us about our church's mission and led us in motions to help us remember our three mission points: Know God, Love People, Serve our World.

One of the fun aspects of HDcv is the variety of people and talents involved. Youth and Crosswalk kids helped with leading songs. Paige Brooks put together a really fun video with the song "Cartoons". Special thanks to Jenni Sprague for pulling it all together and managing our "motley crew". New Life is blessed with lots of creative, artistic, fun, musical, dramatic, silly, enthusiastic people who are passionate about Jesus. God is at work and we get to be a part of it.

HDcv is an outlet for the joy and excitement of our younger church family members to burst out and bless all of us.

What with all the hand-shaking, high fives, dancing, jumping, singing, shouting, loving, clapping, hopping, hollering, and arm waving we all generated enough energy to light up Noblesville! After all, we've got the light of Jesus inside. Let it shine!

I am excited to announce that there is a Children's and Youth Ministry Volunteer Training set for January 19th with Guest Presenter Tina Houser! She is a nationally known trainer in the area of Children's Ministry and is a published Sunday School Curriculum writer as well as the author of two books, More Than Cookies and Punch and It's Not Junk It's Resources!

Tina is ordained through the Church of God (Anderson) and has been working in children's ministry for 28 years. We are incredibly blessed to have Tina come lead us in training at New Life!!

Child care WILL BE provided. We just need folks to RSVP their attendance and how many children they are bringing. Breakfast will be served for all in attendance.

A special program is being presented for the kids at 10:00 a.m. Locally owned and operated pet store The Pet Jungle will be bringing in some exotic animals and teaching about pet care and the environment. The kids will also have a game time and be watching a movie during the morning.

EVERYONE from nursery volunteer through high school ministry is invited and encouraged to attend!

Another Family Tradition!

The Brooks family -
One of our traditions that the kids have really enjoyed is our annual trek to the tree farm. Brett is a stickler for the live tree—I think because of the childhood stories his dad tells of when Santa would bring a live tree on Christmas Eve. Every year, our family goes to the tree farm and the search is on for that “perfect” tree—too fat, too thin, too tall... And every year, our budget dictates more of a Charlie Brown quality tree than a White House one. But that’s part of the beauty of it—the imperfections are what make it perfect. And you can always put the ugly side toward the wall. Anyway, after we agree on a tree, which is never easy, we spend the next half hour playing a game of hide and seek in the tree farm, which is a blast. We have done it every year since Paige was a toddler. We’ve done it in warmer weather, in the rain, and in the flurrying snow. We’ve hidden in tree holes, run across deer grazing, discovered praying mantises, and annoyed lots of other tree shoppers, I’m sure. But it’s a must-do tradition for our family; I think that Brett and I will be out there just the two of us even after the kids are out of the house on their own. :o)

Day of Prayer

Let's unite and as one voice go to the Lord, reflecting on His goodness, confessing our sins, interceding for the needs of our church family, and giving thanks to God for all that He has done and will do! The Bible says, "Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints." (Eph. 6:18)

Kent Hoover -I grew up as the youngest in a family with 5 children. We are all in our forties and fifties now, but a few years ago my sister made us all line up at the top of the stairs (from youngest to oldest) just like we used to on Christmas morning. I was always first in line to run down the stairs, take a quick stop by my stocking (hung on the stair rail) and then dive under the Christmas tree to see what Santa might have dropped off for me. If you can imagine five 'mid-life" grown ups lining up in age order to run down the stairs, thats funny!

The Galema's -Adam's grandmother lights brand new candle sticks at the table for Christmas/Thanksgiving lunch and someone will make a mark on each of them about half way down.... everyone eats and sits around the table talking and laughing and then when the candle burns to the mark-its time to eat again!

Dianne White -A family tradition our family has always enjoyed was that before December 1, I would purchase a long taper candle and score the candle with 25 lines. Every evening at dinner we would burn the candle, anticipating how many days were left before Christmas, the birth of our Savior. As our boys got older, it was always a great privilege to be the one who got to light the candle. Christmas morning was always celebrated with a special breakfast that always included orange Julius, a tradition we continue to keep and enjoy!

Jenni Sprague -We have an advent Christmas tree made by Dept. 56 in the Snowbabies line. It is white and gold. This little tree sits atop a square base which has 6 tiny drawers on each side, giving us 24 days to count down. Each drawer holds a tiny ornament. We gather together as a family each night before tuck-ins to remove an ornament and hang it on the tree. Then we wind up the tree--it's a music box too--and we sing together the song "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." We have done this since the kids were born. I bought this tree before I even had kids!!!

Jenessa Denniston -One of my very favorites is a Danish tradition that my Mom's family has always done and now we do also. We pull the Christmas tree out into the middle of the room and turn out all of the lights except for the tree. Then everyone holds hands around it and sings carols. We start with the youngest family member and move to the oldest. We walk around as we sing, changing directions with each song. Grandma is last and always chooses a peppy Danish song. Grandma also made a wax birthday cake for Jesus and we always sing Happy Birthday to Jesus.

Another Chance to Serve!!

Dear Men of New Life,

‘Tis the season. No doubt in the next couple of months you will consider giving some clothes away – maybe the sweater you get from Aunt Mildred, or the shirt from Cousin Bill. Or maybe your New Years Resolution will be to shed a few pounds. Whatever the reason, if you are going to give clothes away consider giving them to PREF – the Plainfield Re-entry and Educational Facility.

PREF is a Department of Corrections facility in Plainfield for men who are nearing the end of their prison sentence. At PREF the men can wear street clothes instead of prison uniforms so they can get used to being a person again instead of a number. Donating to the PREF clothes closet will provide clothes to wear in the facility as well as when the men go on work release. At final release they are given a suitcase with several outfits to start them off in their new life.

The clothes closet needs clothes and shoes of any kind in any size. The only restriction is no large logos on the hats or clothing. Donating new underwear and socks is greatly appreciated as well as coats and jackets, especially at this time of year. If you have a duffle bag or suitcase that you can donate, that would be appreciated as well. A list of needs is posted at church on the bulletin board by the Restrooms.

Please call Bob and Donna Watson (873-4709) if you have something to donate of if you have any questions. If you bring something to the church, please let someone know it is there for us to pick up. We will make sure that your donations get to Plainfield . Many of you have donated already and we thank you so very much.
